Nigeria's independence

The IRONY OF OUR INDEPENDENCE BY JOY

THE IRONY OF OUR INDEPENDENCE

Oh! Nigeria my motherland

Flowing with milk and honey

Filled with oceans of black beauty

A well of black gold

Oh my country Nigeria!

Why are people dying of hunger?

Why are the young girls?

Stolen of their innocence?

Why the hard drugs?

Bad roads, no peace

Why can’t we all live in peace and harmony

Without the daily killings

We pray for mercy in Nigeria

Remember our past heroes

And someday, when I become a heroine

Fighting for my country

God will bless Nigeria

With a happy Independence day
